Best way would be early contact with actual Socialists introducing him to Marxist literature and thinking. Also a network of likeminded individuals could reafirm his believes. This could lead to him being alienated by the politics of the British upper class and aristocracy.I feel like there's potential here. As a young man he was strongly anti-religious and he criticized the way POWs were treated both in Sudan and South Africa. Maybe these experiences help... but that's still a long way from full-blown Marxism
