Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to have Bush go after Cuba, Venezuela, and the DPRK instead of the Middle East. Bonus points if you can make Lincoln Chafee a main player.
Why would he go after any of those three?
I mean,if North Korea for whatever reason goes insane and invades South Korea, well then yeah it makes sense America would intervene but China would probably be rushing to Pyongyang too.
If Venezuela breaks down into civil war,we might deploy troops but I doubt it and besides,at the time of the US-backed coup attempt,I don't think there was enough dissent in the country for a civil war.
I can't see him doing anything with Cuba other then strengthening or maybe weakening sanctions.
Basically,I feel this might be a bit too ASB. Now,you could possibly make the Middle East stuff worst then OTL,say Iran possibly shoots down an American plane accidentally or Libya does and Bush decides to go in but even that might be a bit of a stretch.
Well, Bush technically could have launched an invasion of Cuba like he did with Iraq in 2003. He went to extreme lengths to demonize Saddam Hussein, so he could do the same with Fidel Castro. It would have garnered him some similar outrage, but what should we really expect from old Dubya? North Korea could have potentially been dismantled but Bush would be too incompetent to think of anything clever. And I did not see too much between Bush and Chavez for there to be a reason for American invasion of Venezuela (back then, that is).
Saddam Hussein had broken parts of a treaty though,so there was some reason to go in there. Plus Saddam already was known to be a brutal dictator and was genocidal who also had a former WMD program.
Bush also wasn't an insane warmonger as you seem to think,Cheney and Rumsfeld were the ones who advised him to go into Iraq, largely for oil. Cuba has no oil,and Castro wasn't thinking about genocide or making nukes.
If he attacks North Korea out of the blue,he risks provoking China, though I partially doubt China would deploy troops to defend North Korea, they'd probably just impose sanctions and the like at worst since no one wants a nuclear war.
Well, that's easy, make a Communist power launch a devastating terror attack against the US, and you have it. Actually, if not mistaken wasn't NK part of Bush's Axis of Evil?
Why?Castro was condemned for far longer than Saddam Hussein and posed a more serious threat due to who he was.
Why?
