AHC: make Benjamin Netanyahu leader of Egypt

so the History Channel posted a quiz on its Facebook asking who was President after the Death of Sadat 30 years ago, the funniest answer (for me) was Benjamin Netanyahu, so with any POD after Bibi's birth make him the leader (what ever title you like) of Egypt :D

Netanyahu is born October 21 1949. That's like 8-9 months after the peace treaty.

Easiest path is to somehow have Egypt conquer Israel (or at least the part Netanyahu is in) and, without the Israeli specter, grant Jews full rights. Netanyahu somehow becomes a bright young officer who advances through the military and becomes Head Honcho. Becoming a civilian politician is harder because even with de jure equality, Egyptians probably wouldn't elect a European-descended Jew president/Prime Minister/whatever

They wouldn't have granted Jews full rights. They would have massacred the Jewish population if they'd been given the chance.

The entire Jewish population? With a POD after the Holocaust? The rest of the world wouldn't stand for it.

you ever heard what the Arab said and say about Israel? any ways I think there'd be a lot of deaths and than deportations, a small number of Jews who's roots in Israel go back to before 1880 might get to stay to show Arab "fairness" but likely they wouldn't get to vote (maybe like in Iran one of them would get a pointless seat in parlaiment)

I don't doubt that some Arabs would want to do that to the Jews, but if the Egyptians tried to pull a second Holocaust, the United States and other countries WILL step in.

"we will wipe out the Jewish State, and as for the survivors, if there are any, the boats are waiting" Nasser 1967

I'm Guessing the Israelis will fight to the death, house to house room to room every city and town and settlement, meaning lots of IDF deaths and Arab control of their armies.... not so much, it wouldn't be a Holocaust like Germany's but it'd be a mess

Again, I'm not disputing that it would have a good chance of happening- all I'm saying is, America WILL do something.

What if we make Bibi the head of the Israeli occupying army in Egypt after the 1992 Arab-Israeli War and therefore military governor? He becomes the "leader" of Egypt, the challenge said nothing about what kind of leader or what kind of Egypt...

He actually supported Mubarak to the hilt morally at least during the recent Egyptian Revolt! Also during the 3 day war the IDF came very close to taking over Cairo, AFAIK being only about 100KM away and could probably have taken it. However, wiser heads prevailed as a chaotic city at the best of times, the Zionist State would have had a massive headache trying to control it, although over time somebody such as BI Bi might have become govenour etc there!

There's no chance of Israel occupying Egypt; even with all the reserves called up, they cannot occupy even Cairo. There just aren't enough people.

[handwave] The 1948 war goes badly very quickly for the nascent Israel, the Jewish militias are subdued quickly because some crucial supplies which were there OTL, well, weren't there. [/handwave]
The bloodshed stays within limits. The Arab forces draw plans to deport or disperse the Jews, but then, before any of this gets implemented, things sour between Syria and Lebanon, on the one side, and Egypt and Jordan on the other side. In the face of possible war, Egypt decides to offer citizenship to Jews under condition that Jewish veterans fight for Egypt, against Syria.
Maybe it comes to blows, maybe they just stare at each other, in any case the Jewish officer corps becomes an integral part of Egyptian army - especially if the Egypt/Syria divide is Cold War motivated, this may get Egypt additional support from France and US.
This is the environment in which Netanyahu makes his military career. After distinguished service in the one or another war Egypt participates(hmmm.... *throw a dart into a map* Sudan) , he climbs the military career ladder almost to the end - until the Soviet Union collapses in a similar manner as OTL. Soviet support for Syria dries up, and as the previous Cold War frontier becomes a political backwater the same happens to the Western support for Egypt. The economical situation worsens to a stage where riots occur, radical parties of all shapes (from Islamist to Communist) fight for the control of the streets, and so on. In this climate, a small but determined group of generals overthrow the paralyzed government, and imposes a "temporary" military rule to "restore order". Head of the said group is the distinguished Sudan War hero, the General of Artillery Binyamin al-Netanyahu...
