AHC: Make Assyria survive

My challenge/question is how can Assyria as in the kingdom/empire could survive or atleast rejuvenate. If it does what would be the effects of a continued Assyrian empire/kingdom or rejuvenated kingdom/empire? Preferably I would like the continued use of Akkadian (Assyrian dialect) however i don't mind if they trash cuneiform. A continued culture with the language and prestige would work as well, but not preferable. The POD is 911 BC the beginning of the neo-Assyrian empire. Btw my first thread, lol I thought I should choose something I was interested in for my first.

Or just have Assuristan breakaway from the Sassanid Empire.

That's a long time after the suggested POD, I am sure OP would prefer something closer. Also, Asoristan was the capital satrapy of the Sassanians, so breaking it off wouldn't be entirely easy.

Off topic to the OP: Are you Khuzestani? :)

No, but I am very interested in ancient middle eastern culture. What made you think that? I am somewhat familiar in the Khuzestani dialect(of Arabic), through friends.

Kill Ashurbanipal about 20-30 years earlier; he had a bad case of too long on the throne. It'd cut down on some of the rot and hopefully his successor will be able to keep things going. A strategic drawdown and reduced involvement in Egypt would also help prevent overextension. Ideally try to reduce or rollback some of the projects to resettle subject populations in the capital region and heartland to reduce the ecological strain on it.

I asked because your name says khuze in Farsi script (خوز), so I assumed you at least knew something about it! Always happy to talk about it if you ever want to pm me

Given that your PoD is the beginning of the neo-Assyrian empire, I think that Akkadian could survive if the Arameans (or the majority of them) were kept in their homeland, with lesser contacts (or even intermarriage) with the Mesopotamians.

So...no outright conquest of the more Aramean Syro-Hittite kingdoms(probably this means like Sam'al/Guzana/Kinalua/Arpad/etc mostly or all either stay independent or remain nominal tributaries)? This probably means some internal changes within the Syro-Hittite states themselves and probably some consolidation of several of these states. The big problem I see is that you need to keep the Neo-Assyrian program of resettlement into the Assyrian heartland and the drought that hit the region in the 7th century BCE from colliding somehow.

Have them avoid their wasteful and ultimately futile attempts to hold onto Egypt. Also, they should never attempt to outright conquer Babylon, just keep it a vassal state.

Basically, they over-extended themselves and got curb-stomped as a result.
