In 1997, Labour entered the UK General Election with a 24% lead with the polls. They ended with a 13% lead in votes but a supermajority regardless. In 2017 the Conservatives entered the election with a 25% lead in the polls, but ended with only a 3% lead in votes and a minority government. Obviously differences in campaigning strategy led to the different outcomes, but considering that, how could Blair screw up 97 to the extent that he's stuck with a minority govt. at best?
