AHC: Major (<20 million pop.) nation in Americas with creole religion

With a PoD ideally after 1492 (but loose enough), is there any way of getting a nation in the Americas - preferably on the mainland - whose majority population and even national institutions follow a creole religion, with a Christian foundation but radically different "nativized" theology and practices?

Obvious OTL examples are Haitian and Louisiana Voodoo, but not I'm limiting the question to West African cultures. Filipino popular piety is another example, but I'm thinking something even more distinct.

Maybe have conquistadores that instead of turning their land over to their overlords(in this case Spain) they create a local empire which blends European influence with native customs?

Alternatively have no conquest happen and European influence create Christian groups that end up dominating their respective areas.

Mormons establish a country successfully

Prevent Spanish rapid conquest of Inca empire and this is possible depending on how lucky the Andean/Mapuche people are

The maya would have essentially established this if they won the caste war and created their cruzob religion across the entire Yucatan

Haiti has today a population of over 10 million. The Domininic Republic also has a similar population. Lump them together and you get a population of over 20 million.

No Louisiana Purchase. A Haitian Napoleon analogue exists who conquers the would-be Louisiana Purchase after uniting Hispaniola.

The number of Vodou practioners in Haiti is less than 10 million; more likely to be around 7.8-8 million frankly. IIRC most Dominicans don't practice Las 21 Divisiones either.

Well if we speak of México and their traditions that áre really unorthodoxy, like The día de muertos, The Santa Muerte cult, You arenpretty close to fullfil your request

Yeah, this is OTL. Many Mexicans have a very unique approach to their Catholic faith which includes many elements not found in European Catholicism.

More like how lucky the Spaniards are, they were so incredibly fortunate in that era...

Yeah I agree totally, if they just avoid rolling tens on their conquest of the aztecs then do the same with Incas, we would end up with a more prolonged and probably less successful conquests of mesoamerica where religious syncretism in the governments of nations can become the norm.

I was looking for numbers and The Santa Muerte Cult it have a some 10 to 12 million followers and Is constantly denounced as heretic by The catholic church

Following the Haitian revoltion, and the Haitian conquest of Spanish Santo Domingo, the religious landscape of the country changed dramatically. The Catholic church were at decline as the population both in former French and Spanish Domingo focused more on their African roots instead of their European roots. This was witnessed in the exponential growth of the Haitian Catholic Voodoo church. The Haitan Catholic Voodoo Chuch is s synthesis of Catholic European and African spirituallity. Today most of the 30 million inhabitants of Santo Domingo identify as Haitian Catholic Voodoo.

In this scenario there is a succesfull Haiti-fication of the Dominican Republic, and a sort of greater Haiti appears.
