AHC: Losing Axis seen as "good guys" of WWII

With a POD no earlier than 1925, make the Axis be widely seen as the "good guys" of WWII.

BUT...
1. They must lose the war
2. They can't win a WWIII afterwards
Anything that butterflies the extermination phase of the Holocaust/General Plan Ost without butterflying the Nazis or WWII will pretty much ensure that, at the very least, the war becomes a much more grey conflict. After all Dresden looks pretty bad in our timeline, I'd hate to know how it would be viewed in a world where "but it was to stop Hitler" was as vapid as "but it was to stop the Kaiser".

Perhaps a settlement in madigascar for the Jews, apartheid style.

The Madagascar plan was only to have them die without having to bother doing it themselves, they would die of starvation and disease since Madagascar could not at the time support a large influx of people.

I'm thinking more that the anti-Semitic campaign doesn't progress beyond the 'deport them for the money' stage. The good guys are saving people from a war zone, so they should be rewarded.

The more interesting question is how to get the Japanese to also be the good guys in this timeline.

As Matlef said, the Nazi deportation plans were intended to kill them Holodomor style by sending them en masse to a place with no real human carrying capacity. You know how Calbear always locks threads in ASB that basically involve moving a huge population center to someplace with no resources or infrastructure to support them, so everyone dies? That was this; the deportation plans were a real life ASB mass death scenario.

Have Overlord fail due to better planning and response. WAllies are forced to wait and try another route, Soviets conquer their way to the Rhine. Having to fight their way across the whole of the Reich, Stalin's domination takes a darker toll.

Overlord wasn’t going to fail. Allied numbers and fire support were just too overwhelming.

I’m not really a huge fan of these threads because if the Axis isn’t horrible, then it’s not the Axis.

That being said, there might be a way to make them more rehabilitated in popular culture (incorrectly so). A lot of people think the USSR was just as bad; if WWIII happened and tens of millions or more got killed that could reinforce and spread the wehraboo narratives about anti-Communist crusades and the need to defend the Fatherland from the red tides and other such nattering.

So the Internet and historical subreddits in particular would just be even more cancerous once they were finally invented, basically.

Does this really happen?

All the time.

“Golly gee, what’d happen if an ASB ISOT’d NYC back to the Cretaceous Period?”

“It would go back to an era without fossil fuels having developed, no water or electrical hookups (which go all the way to Canada because of the magnitude needed), and no food supply/agricultural areas and no time to prepare and plant any because a city of tens of millions of people needs millions of tons of food now, not in year plus. Also no one has any survival skills. Everyone dies. Thread locked.”

That basic template happens probably multiple times a week. Used to be that often per day almost until some people had the gall to claim the policy was somehow racist and he got so fed up with it that he stopped locking all but the most blatant (“What if the Earth’s atmosphere disappears and/or everyone’s blood turns to corn syrup?”). ASB really has some great stuff but jeez people need to put some dang thought into it.

I don't see how you can do this without finding a way to convincingly cover up the majority of the Holocaust or finding a way to pass equal blame on the Allies--probably a mix of both. Even at the worst the Allies can get--probably involving things like Operation Vegetarian, worst-case Decisive Darkness-type Operation Downfall, and Soviet war crimes cranked up to 11, it's pretty hard for the aggressors of the war who fought for territorial expansion, committed endless war crimes in China, Asia, Eastern Europe, topped off by the Holocaust, to be portrayed as anything but "equally evil" at best. And it would take decades after the war for the Allies to be perceived as equally bad, like maybe in the 60s more attention is drawn to Vegetarian, Downfall, etc. and the excesses involved and the Western Allies begin to question their role in the great evil of WWII and consider themselves not much morally better than the Axis or the Soviets, although such criticism would no doubt be considered communist subversion on the part of the USSR.

a couple of minor changes is all that's needed.

-much less cooperation between the Western democracies & the USSR during WWII, both side were maneuvering much earlier for post war positions vis a vis each other.
-no Neuenburg Trials, due to fears of being seen as "victors' justice", or botched Neuenburg Trials where it became wildly seen as "victors' justice"
-Botched decolonization by various colonial powers, throw in a few wars dragging out
-both sides of the Cold War doing their best to shore up the former Axis powers under their influences against the other side (much like OTL, except more so). General trend as portraying their current enemies as worse than that of the former Axis.
-internet culture becomes much more "international" than OTL (i.e. less dominated by the English speaking world), might require much better development of translation software and integration of said software into various internet browsers & sites

Overall the effects would be similar to what has already happened in OTL, where the Nazis weren't seen as all that evil in many Asian countries and quite a few in the West have problems understanding why some Asian countries have issues with Japan and their mild cases of historical revisionism. In this alt timeline though WWII would be seen merely as another war for land & influence while the subsequent cold war would be seen as a war of ideology where most of the major actors were also colossal hypocrites to boot.
