AHC: Liberia In Any Other Location Besides Namibia

With a POD from the 19th century onwards, have the Western Sahara become colonized by the ACS.

For clarification, I mean the modern territory of the Western Sahara.

Namibia is much more likely to succeed and work given the population of quasi-westernized Basters and Oorlams.

Western Sahara is far to hostile and dominated by a Berber Islamic caste system they could not be properly placed in.

But doesn't Western Sahara hold a tiny population? Surely through some method they can colonize it.

Do you want a jihad, because that's what will cause a jihad that'll align all warring clans together against the would be colonialists.

Perhaps the Liberian colonialists could accept Islam? Or a much more of an American presence and support that wipes out the natives?

These are just some ideas I'm putting out.

They were staunch Christian's of whom only a few converted when they could marry into an Islamic royal family.

You will deal with all of Western Sahara fighting for Islam. I could see the clerics of Chinguetti creating a fervor further south to expunge infidels.

Beyond that there is no wealth to be had, there were no people to christianize die to their aversion to convert from Islam and the would be colonists for the most part had no real ties to that land at all.

What crops could be had? What knowledge of camel driving? Blacks were not desperate to escape anywhere, some left to the Dominican Republic, Tobago, etc... They didn't need a desert.

So is the concept ASB then? There is truly no chance for Liberia to be in the Western Sahara?

Unless you specifically mean all slaves who can show proof of being Moroccan being sent there after the end of their individual enslavement (like the Sundry Act being enforced bring all Moroccan subjects and their children there) than no. Even in that scenario I honestly think most would die.

Go with Namibia being a Liberia.

This is highly unlikely, even if the Sahrawis didn't start a war, it wouldn't stop the colonists from abandoning the settlement and going to a more appealing part of Africa or just going back to America.

resettlement proposals were made in the 20's for americans.
What proposals? I'm honestly just looking for alternative places for Liberia instead of Naimbia.

Doable, but you can't get many people there. The land is shit.

Would settlement along the coast work at least?

Namibia seems like the best option for an alt Liberia. But are there no other options?

To me it's the best place to migrate to for all populations and strata of black Americans in Africa.
Could they just sent to Haiti ?

...folks weren't "sent" anywhere, people migrated places and yes they migrated to Haitian held D.R. and are known as the Samana Americans.

Of course there are other options, almost anywhere in the west coast of Sub Saharan Africa that wasn't a European colony.

The region in what became Gabon may be an alternate location, but I think the environment is much too tropical (though no more than in Liberia). The Spanish had a claim of all territory between the Niger and the Ogooue Rivers, which eventually became Equatorial Guinea OTL. So, the potential PoD here might be, during the Adams-Onis Treaty, for the US to purchase a part of those claims (say, from the Ntem to the Ogooue) for the resettlement of a colony in Africa.

Gabon and Equatorial Guinea aren't impossible, but they have even more disease than Liberia.

What I figured. Still, how apparent will that be to the settlers initially, and especially the men negotiating?

An alternate location need not necessarily be a better one, mind, but one that is merely available. And considering it'd be a fair sight better than Western Sahara, disregarding nominal Spanish and Moroccan claims that existed at this time I think.

Though, I think even the Congo is an option at this point in time, but an even worse one even if you are sticking close to the coast.
