AHC: Lasting 1946 PRK Communist Insurrection against USAMGIK

How could the Autumn Uprising of 1946 have lasted up until the outbreak of the Korean War?

If the revolt had succeeded in taking over enough areas and winning a Dien Bien Phu-esque type battle (or battles), could the US have been persuaded to abandon the Peninsula to a united PRK?

Abandoning the ROK to a hostile power means allowing that hostile power to just outside rock throwing range of Japan. It also provides that power with plentiful recruits for attacks on Japan, said country and its people being less than totally loved in Korea.

So abandoning the ROK does not mean getting out of the fight. It just moves the threat closer to something it is in the USA's perceived national interest to protect and/or control.

Is it possible that the insurrection could've gained enough strength to eject US forces? Or at least degrade US military operations in Korea for the years leading up to the North's invasion?

Just wondering if anyone knows any particular strengths and weaknesses or basic numbers and stats regarding the People's Committees and their brief fight against the US and if there was a chance for the uprising to seriously impact the fate of the peninsula in the mid to late 40's/ early 50's
