AHC: Largest Possible World Two Conflict

Now largest could be defined as several things, but for this challenge the focus is largest in terms of countries and forces militarily involved (supporting roles and diplomatic support less important for this challenge).

Also, is it possible for a three-sided war?

Agree a Latin American theater would be the easiest way to help the op, but is Brazil the best candidate for Axis ally?

NO,NO,NO,surely not the current Brazil(I am Brazilian know what I mean)only the military dictatorship remained in Brazil or a major policy change occurred This requires a good POD.

An earlier Peronist regime might lead to this kind of thing developing in South America.

On the plus side, it might mean less Nazi war criminals escaping justice, however, it also might mean that the continent eventually becomes a Dominion of Dole Fruit.

Any South American country that joins the axis would be quickly crushed by its neighbors

Yes, a lack of physical ability to cooperate was a huge problem for the Axis.

In that vein a strategy that allows the Axis powers the ability for direct physical links would make the war worse. I'd suggest Italian Africa would be a good theatre for this and could bring in other players through local revolutions etc.

Fascist Spain joining the Axis would add another nut for the Allies to crack as well as the South American front. There could also potentially be no co-operation between the Chinese Communists and Nationalists in the fight against the Japanese leading to an even more chaotic war in China.

Wouldn't anything in Latin America also have the effect of extending the duration of the war as well since doesn't it mean that some number of American troops would be deployed south, instead of North Africa or England, to deal with an actual or at the least perceived threat to the US much closer to home ?

Exactly what I was thinking. Also they could threaten the Panama Canal. All it would take is one good strike to destroy a lock and you've just added 7800miles to a ocean voyage.

Loading a freighter with nitrates and gunpowder and blowing it in the Gatun locks would close it for months.

Say the Nazi's don't attack Brazilian shipping and a Pro-axis leader rises in a bloody coup, takes Brazil and declares for the Axis.

Novo Brazil (or whatever) acts a base for German and Italian submarines and raiders in various locations along the Atlantic Coast.

Perhaps Venezuela and Colombia have Fascist take-overs or leanings as well.

Now you have 3 large nations that can directly threaten the Panama Canal in the Americas that are going to have to be dealt with by the Allies.

Perhaps a POD in the 1900's. More dictators etc... I don't know, just snowballing ideas..
