AHC: Largest possible exodus of a group of people

What's the largest possible exodus of a group of people that could happen, at any point in history (Before 1900) with any POD?

'Largest' being a combination of the length travelled, and the amount of people leaving.

A mass-banishment also counts if the people survive afterward.

Hoo boy. This thread is going places.

On topic, if genocide fits into the parameters you've defined, then an even moderately successful extermination of the Slavs by the Nazis would be huge.

After 1900 stuff is what would cause the most flamewar-causing discussion, and this is Before 1900, so this is fairly safe.

That would be After 1900. And genocide means they die, not go live somewhere else, so it does not count.

Well, there IS The Peshawar Lancers.

Hordes of Europeans fleeing a meteor-devestated northern hemisphere to the southern hemisphere, squeezed in alongside their colonial subjects, has gotta be pretty sizeable.

I'm going to say that overall European migration into the Americas has to count as the largest displacement of people in history. Sure, Europe did not run out of Europeans, and all the European states are still there (more-or-less) but it was quite a bit of people that left Europe between 1700 and now.

During the decades of the Mongol's drawn-out conquest, I wonder how many Chinese decided the south was looking good this year?

The people fleeing the Mongols towards the west (Europe) could probably be counted as well.

Could there be a massive exodus across the English Channel, Strait of Gibraltar, Strait of Messina, Bosporus Strait, or any other similar strait?

IIRC, that sort of happened already with the Strait of Gibraltar and the Moriscos as well as the Sephardic Jews settling in Morocco, but I may be wrong.

What happened to the people of Sicily when the (Abbasids?) started their conquests?

From OTL, do the Goths fleeing from the Huns count?

I would think both the Goths and the Huns would count, as would all the other groups headed west into Roman territory in that era. Several million all told; not the largest perhaps, but in relation to the total population at the time quite large.

Portuguese immigration to Brazil (was it the 17th or 18th centuries). 600000 out of a population of at the most 2 million people.
