AHC: Larger Greek Language Family

What about Albanian? It seems like the closest surviving cousin of Greek. Another thing that would help is butterflying the Slavic Migrations so more Balkan languages survive.

Albanian is Indo-European language but I haven't ever seen any proves or claims that Greek would be closest relative of Albanian. Probably Armenian is closest for Greek.

I think that whatever Slavic tribes that came into the Byzantine Empire, they would adapt Greek dialects by the 9th Century, just like the Germanic tribes adapt Latin dialects.

I think we would have to make sure there is a higher Greek speaking population in the Balkans. In OTL, the areas that were taken over by the Slavs had been pretty depopulated; both by wars and disease, but also by economic issues which drove people to more profitable areas, if I remember correctly. And how much of the Balkan region was Greek speaking before the Slavic migrations? I know that some parts, at least, were Romance speaking.
