AHC: Labour majority in 2010

What's the most effective way of Labour winning the 2010 general election (or 09) with a majority of at least 1? The earliest POD can be 5th May 2005. Some likely factors could include a longer, more fruitful Blair administration, the Conservatives choosing a risky leader who fails to court public opinion or, of course, a better economy, or a less-than-serious financial crisis.

Swap Brown and Blair?

Have Brown as PM in '97, wins again in '01, resigns in '04 for Blair to take over, war-less Blair, no unpopular Gordon on the reigns, Blair arrives with charisma in tow, wins in '05, and goes on again to win a small majority in '10 after the financial crisis.

Davis winning the leadership in 2005 is something that's not explored enough around here - a better speech (that doesn't put people to sleep) and then him getting into the job before anyone realises quite how dull he is could throw a lot of spanners into a lot of works. He's no fool, mind, and a real right-wing campaign in 2010 could make for a fascinating TL. Andy, Stodge, Iain, BG or BA would be great candidates to put one together. Hint.

What would be the chances of the Tories realising they've made a mistake by 2007 and coup against Davis like they did with IDS?

Davis beating Cameron.

Possibly Huhne beating Clegg also helps (I just never liked Huhne, didn't seem as charismatic as Clegg though after yesterday's events I nearly have some sympathy for him) if Huhne can't do as well in the debates.

I suppose also (on it's own):

Blair as Labour leader..... if he can defeat Brown (because Brown won't wait any longer by then)

How well could Brown have done? He had become boring and out of touch in people's minds by the election, identity cards was an unnecessary policy that was pushing libertarians against him, and his allowing himself to be recorded calling some old bigot a "bigot" didn't help!

Best Regards
