AHC: Japanese Empire

What if Japan didnt enter WW2 but still annexed Taiwan, Manchuria, Hainan and Korea and somehow got Transamur from Russia during one of their first wars and instead of invading China they gave assistance to the nationalists. How would East Asia look today, would Manchuria, Korea etc have independence or? How would this change WW2?

Why would Japan support any side in China? A strong China is an threat, especially when Japan holds Chinese territory.

Japan is in its expansionary phase, and wouldn't be satisfied with what it already has. It's bound to conflict with the other colonial powers, the US and Russia.

You'll have to keep both Russia and China splintered for any chance of Japan surviving.

Divides to rule. United but weak and impotent could serves them...

A better bet would be to keep Japan and Britain allied post WW1. Maybe they send an expeditionary force to the trenches in France and the Allies are a little more accommodating at Versailles. I don't think Russia or China is going to mess with Japan if that's the case.

The other side effect is that it will be difficult for Japan to expand. I don't see how they could get Manchukuo but it's possible. Anything more then that though and I don't think the Brits would accept it.

If not the trenches of the Western Front, possibly in the Middle East.
