AHC: Japan keeps Northern Marianas?

It doesn't look that easy. Perhaps if Japan surrenders earlier (unlikely) or if they retreat from most of their possessions, manage to reach a stalemate of some sort and then negotiate?

I don't see the US accepting that without a regime change though, but perhaps the UK would? The Netherlands might want as well, but I'm not sure the Japanese would strike a deal with a government in exile.

After WWII, well, why wouldn't they get to keep the entire Nan'yo? It was populated by a majority of Japanese, after all. I know the Northern Marianas look nice on a map, being just south of the Ogasawara Islands, but it seems like it was either all or nothing for Nan'yo.

The biggest problem with the Northern Marianas is that it was too close to Guam, one of the most key US military bases. Even the friendly post-WWII Japan wouldn't be allowed that.

term of surrender is that they keep the Marianas and Taiwan along with the rest of the non military terms. Probably would require an American government that wants to do all it can to avoid the nuke's though and a more willing and sane japanese government.

I just think it would be impossible post pearl harbour though, maybe the japanese don't attack Pearl Harbour somehow and then they realise they're losing and negotiate terms of surrender.
