AHC: Italy starts or provokes a European war synchronized with Germany-

sure you are probably correct, my speculation was "assuming" that any synchronizing between Italy and Germany would have started "years" before Sept. '39? (supply your own date) also making the assumption carrier operations in the Med would be somewhat easier than North Sea, but for novices that might be little comfort?

possibly the two countries air forces could have been more fruitful area of cooperation? and faster to implement.

A better Idea would be to not bother to build it but GZ was part of the AGNA ie to build a balanced fleet 30% the size of the RN - and the AGNA was part of the price for Britain to not kick off regarding the German armed forces basically rearming.

My thoughts on an earlier German-Italian alignment is that this would generate a different response from the Franco-British 'camp' particularly France!

Germany and Russia cosying up is one thing but Italy shares a border with France!

A 6-18 month earlier effective rearmament by France and certainly the UK for example is massive.

Fascist Italy had invested a lot into the Spanish Civil War and Italo-Ethiopian War relative to what it gained from the conflicts. Mussolini would need to be less adventurous during the interwar period to be ready for a major conflict in 1939-1940.
