ALl he has to be is an american child of Italian Parents over the age of thirty five with no criminal record. What events need to change from OTL in order to get an Italian-American US President, and what is the earliest possible date? Lots of bonus points for a POTUS that actually speaks Italian, as this seems a very long shot.
There you go, Done.FDR is shot, Fiorello LaGuardia is someone's VP. Comes to power in 1940. Thank you Tecumseh's Curse.
Probably the first OTL figure who could be elected in his own right. (as opposed to the above suggestions involving VPs who ascend to power after the death of the President).Mario Cuomo wins in 1992.
Indeed. I agree, President Cuomo is an outcome I could see.Probably the first OTL figure who could be elected in his own right. (as opposed to the above suggestions involving VPs who ascend to power after the death of the President).
Who's to say we have'nt already had one, I mean afterall most Americans have mixed heritages (I'm Spanish, Scandinavian, British and Dutch), so it could be that one of the presidents had some Italian ancestry.
Of course if you mean someone who's ancestry is exclusively or primarily Italian, then it becomes more difficult.
While their's nothing preventing one politically speaking, you have the issue of demographics, that is Italian-American only comprise 5.6% of the population of the present population, and that amount has'nt changed very much since the 1930's.
True, but I remind you that the U.S. elected an african Amewrica in 2008, and an Italian American would be caucasian and probably catholic and traditionally religious.
African Americans also comprise 13.6% of the population presently (in the past, an even larger percent) and are a major voting bloc in multiple states.
Their is to that until th 60's the idea of a Catholic president would have been almot unheard of, as most Americans were since independence very biased against Catholics.
That's a fair point, in fact his catholisism might count against him more than his italian heretidge.African Americans also comprise 13.6% of the population presently (in the past, an even larger percent) and are a major voting bloc in multiple states.

Make me wonder that if it was a convert to say, baptism or methodism, and he was elected, it would be eerily like for Obama STILL at times now - 'He is a crypto-papist!'...
I..don't really see the comparison.
Obama is a Protestant Christian and always has been, therefore the accusationf of him being a Muslims are completely unfounded, whereas someone who converted their's atleast some tiny reasoning to form the idea on.

Not sure, I think Obama found faith one day when he was young. His father was atheist or so. But anyway, it's actually fitting, and creepily possible.
