AHC: Islamic Viceroyalty in Anatolia, Greek Sultanate of Rum

During the period of Seljuk ascendancy in Anatolia, and probably after the Fourth Crusade broke up Byzantium, is it possible that a sizable number of Greeks could have converted to Islam and created an Islamic, Greek state?

Could an Islamic, Greek state rise similarly to the Ottomans?

Possible? Yes. Safe? Depends on. If it is created on Anatolia the chance of survival is high. They might even be supported by Turkmen tribes.

I'd love to see this played out. Could the Christian infighting of Catholic versus Orthodox after the set-up of the Latin Empire create a sufficient institutional crisis for Greeks to adopt Islam en masse, and yet not adopt Turkic speech?
