Hitler micromanages the attack on France so badly that Rommel and Guderian aren't able to take advantage of the clogged roads and the consequent strategic difficulties the French faced. Stalin gets greedy and decides for whatever reason to jump Hitler while he's busy. Mussolini meanwhile pulls out of the attack on France, joins the dogpile on Hitler, and manages to appease the Entente while they focus on dealing with the aftermath of Germany falling and the Soviet threat.
Mussolini then proceeds to order unspeakable slaughters in Ethiopia and Libya while the LoN wags a finger disapprovingly. After starving, shooting, or gassing most of the natives, and enslaving the rest, Mussolini dies at a ripe old age and Italy fumbles its way back towards unstable and corrupt semi-democracy. Neo-Mussolinists are popular in Italy but widely condemned by the international community. Student activists in other countries like to protest what Mussolini did, which remaining Mussolini supporters love to rant back at.
