AHC: Indonesia is like Brunei

The Indonesian archipelago is home to many countries. But the two most important are Indonesia (of course), a secular constitutional republic, and Brunei, a absolute monarchy which is not only ruled by a Sultan, but enforces sharia law.

So, your challenge is. Change history so that Indonesia is like Brunei, either in the form of a absolute monarchy or a country where sharia is the law of the land.

You could have Islamists overthrow Sukarno when he shifted to the left instead of the nationalists. Would probably have to be a revolution instead of a coup though.

The Malay Archipelago ("Indonesian Archipelago") only has five countries (Timor Leste/East Timor, Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines and Indonesia), and Malaysia, Philippines and arguably East Timor are more important than Brunei.

When I said 'most important', I meant, 'as it pertains to my question'.

The original draft for Pancasila has "Belief in God and Obligation to Follow Islamic Sharia for it's Believer" as the first clause (Jakarta Charter), eventually amended into "Believe in One God" in the subsequent per-independence talks in PPKI due to both non-Muslim and secularist lobby. That can be used as justification for Sharia, if it passes
