AHC:India adopts a Presidential System

With a POD after WWII, India has to adopt a U.S. style Presidential system. Bonus points if it adopts it as a replacement for its current system.

During the period when Mrs. Indira Gandhi was the prime minister, there was talk about introducing the presidential system to replace the present parliamentary system. It was not like the US system with the separation of powers between the executive and legislative branches. What Mrs. Gandhi wanted was a system where the other branches were subordinate to the executive, with all powers concentrated in the hands of the executive president. There were some articles in the newspapers with some Congress supporters favoring the idea and the opposition in general against it. Mrs. Gandhi never mentioned anything about it and the idea was silently dropped.
The parliamentary system was replaced by the presidential system in two countries in South Asia. First in Bangladesh by Sheikh Mujib-ur Rehman and later in SriLanka by J.R.Jayawardene. The Bangladesh experiment went awry with the overthrow and assassination of Mujib-ur Rehman and the descent into military rule. In Sri Lanka the presidential system still continues despite the promises of many presidential candidates to revert to the parliamentary system.
