AHC: Independent Rif and Kabylie

Say the Republicans win the Civil War and Mussolini and the WAllies support a Rif Republic to keep the commies out. Leads to a revived Stresa Front perhaps as well, thus averting the Fall of France and making *World War Two about fighting communism; thus a stronger and more assertive France, allied to both Italy and Great Britain, and with far less support for letting Morocco go; with Italy in Libya, Britain in Egypt, the USSR dead and the US less involved in Europe decolonization is slower overall, so by the time Morocco does gain independence (if it does) the Rif Republic is sort of an Austria situation.

Alternately the Moroccans (or the Rif if the Republicans keep ahold of it) go communist and the Rif stays anti-communist per the above, a la Taiwan and China.

Spanish and French try to hold on to their colonies by splitting off chunks into independent states? This means Spain splits Spanish Tangier into two with the Rif state but keeps both, while France gives Kabylie away, and still fails to keep Algeria. Algeria probably takes over Kabylie soon after independence.

Rif is relatively easy: Have the Rif Republic succeed in breaking away from Spain during the 1920-1927 Rebellion.

Kabyle is hard. Maybe the French decide that the easiest way to hold on to Algeria is to carve off some pieces into independent micro-polities. Kabyle people were some of the most resistant to French Rule and today are about 20% of the population of Algeria, so an independent Kabyle would make sense in that regard.

Bear in mind that the Kabyle are conquered people living amongst their Arab conquerors and colonists who are not going to be happy with any Kabyle separatism.
