AHC: Independent Northern England

The former territory of the Celtic Brigantes roughly corresponds to Northern England. Perhaps "Brigantia" could become the name of the country, at least in Latin, along the same lines as "Caledonia" and "Hibernia".

True.

On a somewhat related note, if the Norman controlled bit of England decides to take over Wales, do you reckon that there would be any chance of the Welsh seeking support and/or allying with the northerners on the basis that both they and the northerners hate the Normans.

Don't actually think that the Welsh would need to actively seek support to get it ... they'd just need to fight back and wait around till the Norse catch the idea that Normans are busy (hence its time for another fight)... that said i doubt that any alliance between Wales and the Norse would ever become much more than 'Enemy of my enemy'

As for the name thing, it occurred to me that given the attitudes that would likely be involved, that both sides might continue to use the word 'England' to refer to themselves due to each side seeing themselves as the 'real' England. Of course, that would probably get confusing pretty quickly, at least to those outside of the feud.

Yeah ... Norse England and Scandinavia would probably use England towards the Norse ... Normans and French would probably use England towards the Normans ... everyone else would use it towards neither, unless they've a major beef going on against the other (hence Scotland might use it towards the Normans)
