AHC: Independent India Monarchy

Your challenge if you choose to accept it is to have India become an independent nation as a monarchy, not a republic. Having the Queen of England as the head of state does not count. It has to be an actual monarch that lives in India. Any PoD(s) are good as long as they are not before 1900.

Bonus points of it is an absolute monarch and even more if the country is highly traditional.

Plenty of princes and monarchs in India that rule over small states but only the British monarch has the claim over all of India. It's impossible unless we have India break into several smaller states like Kashmir, Hyderabad etc

I would suggest a Malaysia-style elective monarchy, which is effectively a rotational, limited term as Sultan for each Malayan state monarch. However, given the diverse ethnicities and religions of the princes, trying to form a functioning electoral system among them is going to be a huge issue.

Simple, but borderline ASB

Edward fall in love with Indian Princess and marry her

He end up become advocate on Indian independence.

Edward abdicate from the Throne of United Kingdom due to parliement pressures, but keep his title as Emperor of India and move here with his wife.

Indian Nationalists shrugs but basically end up agreeing independence at the mere "cost" of having a foreign Emperor married into native Indian Princess. And in the next generation, the hypothetical half-indian son of Edward will be married with another native Indian princess and so on...

He makes a sly passing reference to the BDSM portions of the Kama Sutra, she replies obliquely, but favourably, he thinks !?!?!? and ends up asking for her hand (or whip, or whatever) in marriage, and they run off to Gretna Green...

Considering the dislike of the Congress towards the native monarchs there was no chance of the Congress accepting a monarchic system for an independent India. The question of accepting a British Royal even in a ceremonial position would have been unthinkable for the Congress leaders. The only person the people of India could have accepted as a monarch at that time was none other than Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi. But he himself was not ready to accept any official post, even that of a member of the Constituent Assembly! Hence the only choice before the Congress Party was a Republic.

How come there aren't any WWII Imperial Japan wanks where they go west instead of east, and conquer Burma and puppetize India?

We need more crazy maps of post-WWII Axis Japan's empire.

Because this isn't ASB. It's generally accepted that the Imperial Japanese IOTL had already gotten the absolute best scenario out of really horrible odds, all of which are their own undoing. They've already stretched their supply lines razor thin in Burma. Any further advances would flounder tremendously in the realm of plausibility.
