AHC: Independent Catalonia in the 20th Century

1. Spanish Civil War leads to dissolution of Spain.
2. Franco is stupid and decide go war against Allies. Allies occupy Spain and declare Catalonia as independent nation.
3. Falangist government last longer (to 1980's) and nationalism in Catalonia is even higher as in OTL and new democratic regime decide allow independent for Catalonia.

Maybe a Spanish Civil War that escalates/degenerates into regionalism?
1. Spanish Civil War leads to dissolution of Spain.

What I think is the 'best' possibility, or maybe an intervention by France or the UK?

2. Franco is stupid and decide go war against Allies. Allies occupy Spain and declare Catalonia as independent nation.

He knew (I hope) he couldn't fight after the Civil War. Possible but less likely in my opinion.

3. Falangist government last longer (to 1980's) and nationalism in Catalonia is even higher as in OTL and new democratic regime decide allow independent for Catalonia.

The least possible: even with a longer Falangist government, Spain would still keep Catalonia, because they are the money-maker.

Didn't the Soviets want an allied invasion of Spain at the end of WW2? Maybe that taking place is more likely than Franco entering the war. Not sure what it would take to convince the WAllies though.

I haven't ever heard such suggestion altough SU could have very well suggest that. But it would be very difficult get Wallies invade Spain without such reason what they see being good. Churchill even said after the war that they killed wrong pig. So at least UK would see Franco being smaller bad than Stalin.

Unless something extremely odd takes place, this topic is almost ASB. The closest chance could be in 1938, after the Nationalist forces reach the Mediterranean sea and Catalonia is separated from the rest of the Republic. Franco feared such a independence declaration and a possible French intervention in Catalonia to preserve that independence.

However, I don't would put my money on this.

If we still have Senor I-Want-My-Parade-Clothes-In-My-Plane-Even-Though-They-Are-Heavy-As-F***, would that change anything?

Not sure the French government would have helped Catalonia... It still makes for a sweet ASB scenario, no?

(BTW, hey Kurt! It's been a while! :D )
