AHC: Independent and Prosperous Biafra

What the title says. With any POD from secession on create a scenario where Biafra managed to both remain independent and to become one of the most prosperous African countries (top five GDP per capita to give a clear measure).

That might be difficult in a civil war scenario, considering that even after taking the capital the Biafrians still lost the war. It must either start out independent from the start, or get a superpower sponsor, though if its the USSR then its already damned to be a failure.

You could have the Brits decide to split Nigeria into three different countries during independence, which would avoid a brutal separatist civil war.

How would it be immediately damned as a failure for being an initial soviet ally? India turned out pretty well from the experience, and at that distance away the Soviets won't really be able to exert much hard power over them.
