AHC: In 1960, two young, dynamic leaders, both born in 1917...

In a stunning divergence from OTL, LBJ would become president two years earlier (and probably with less political capital). Are you saying that Kennedy resigns for some unfathomable reason or that we have an American Quadros?

EDIT: If your challenge is just to have JFK abruptly resign then, his health rapidly deteriorating after the Bay of Pigs Invasion, (and then him giving a resignation speech high on medications blaming 'terrible forces') would probably be the most straightforward way to acheive that.

This was actually inspired by a passage in William Manchester's *Portrait of a President: John F. Kennedy in Profile,* p. 34: "Janio Quadros's resignation from the presidency of Brazil appalled him. 'He doesn't have the right to resign!' he protested to a friend of the famiily who was with him at the time. 'Sure, there are times when I'd like to go off to the South of France and take in the sun, but no man can just quit his responsibilities and walk away'..." Of course it's very unlikely for JFK to yield to the temptation (that's why it's a challenge!) but at least he did acknowledge it existed...
