AHC: hostilities in Chinese civil war do not resume after WWII

Your challenge is to make the CCP and the Kuomintang not resume major hostilities quickly after the end of the Second World War, instead at least staying in a tense peace or at best maintaining the Second Chinese United Front, and working together to recover. Your POD can be as early as you want, I suggest getting rid of Mao.

Chiang decides not to advance on Manchuria in the spring of 1946 and instead decides to engage the ChiComs in the south, using another ceasefire to prepare his forces to do so. Yet Mao is secretly assassinated in the process by NKVD agents and is replaced by someone pro-USSR who then is willing to uphold peace with the KMT.
