AHC: Hoover gets re-elected in 1932.

That's your challenge, get the American people to re-elect the Great Humanitarian, Herbert Clark Hoover, to a second term in office. PoD after the Great Depression hits.

Who's the most unelectable Democrat who could possibly be nominated if FDR dropped dead in late 1931 or early 1932? Even then, it's an iffy scenario. Hoover was pretty despised by election day 1932.

It might take two seperate PODs:

1. The Democrats nominate an uncharismatic and conservative candidate.
2. Hoover decides the whole "ostentatious optimism" thing is silly, stops having seven-course meals and acting like nothing's wrong.

Remember, the stock market crash isn't what dragged Hoover down. It was the ramifications of the collapse of the European banking system in 1931 that destroyed the economy of the entire Western world. Stop or delay this, and you have your POD.

You don't even have to butterfly away FDR if you do it right. He is young enough and in good enough health to wait for 1936.
