AHC: Hong Kong and Macau are part of ROC

With a POD no earlier than WWII have the Nationalist lose the Civil war and flee to Taiwan But they get Hong Kong and Macau when the British and the Portuguese end their colonial rule have them given to the Republic of China.

One Way is to get the mainland to avoid reforming and being much more Maoist and not wanting o incorporate the "Imperialistic tainted Capitalist"

The only way that they would go to the ROC is if the UK and Portugal continued to recognize the ROC as the legitimate government of China. Not impossible, but it would generate enormous butterflies.

If they went to the ROC, the PRC would simply overrun them the moment British and Portuguese forces departed. I would imagine that the ROC would simply allow the European nations to continue holding them rather than see them handed over to the PRC.

After the revolution in Portugal in 1974, Macau was directly offered back to Maoist China, which merely replied that they were "not ready" to resume governance. If Thatcher didn't have delusions of grandeur in 1982, she could have achieved a similar agreement for Hong Kong.
