AHC: Hohenzollern's Black Christmas of 1888

I need your assistance in murdering (at least) five people. Well technically, they are already long dead - but in 1888, they were still alive and kicking. IOTL, the Hohenzollern family traditionally celebrated Christmas in the Schloss Charlottenburg, and of course Christmas 1888 in particular was quite uneventful.

Nevertheless, for the TL I'm planning, these people would have to die on 24 December 1888:
- WILHELM II, German Emperor
- AUGUSTE VIKTORIA Friederike Luise Feodora Jenny von Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Augustenburg
- Victoria Elisabeth Augusta CHARLOTTE von Preußen
- IRENE Luise Maria Anna Prinzessin von Hessen und bei Rhein
- AUGUST WILHELM Heinrich Günther Viktor von Preußen
On the other hand, these people would have to survive on 24 December 1888:
- Friedrich WILHELM Victor August Ernst von Preußen
- VICTORIA Adelaide Mary Louisa von Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha
- Albert Wilhelm HEINRICH von Preußen

The date of the PoD must be the 24 December 1888 (even though the death date of some of the persons might very well be a few days later), the place however is up for discussion - but it would likely have to be in/around/near Schloss Charlottenburg, as the Hohenzollern family was present there at the specified date.

Alright, let's see what you can come up with! ;)

If there was gas lighting installed in the palace at this time - it was quite popular in the latter half of the 19th century - there could have been a gas explosion that some of those present would not survive or a gas leak having said persons succumb to gas poisoning. If there's no gas lighting installed the most likely way to go would be an anarchist's bomb.

Or either we kill all the hohenzollern or we not killed anyone, there is not middle ground here.

Wonder who will react Bismark about the news, that will be like dropping an atomic bomb in frankfurt, something who will change the rules of game forever.

Maybe a blizzard and bad repaired ceiling make the whole roof collapse in the room when the family is enjoyning Xmas? that is pretty possible with the proper butterfly of Doom.

Victors and Niveks suggestions above are probably some of the easiest, and you could add in food poisoning (accidental or on purpose)

The 6YO crown prince/future emperor is the tricky one, what part of the palace is the nursery in? Would he have gone to bed earlier before the festivities? A gas xplosion might hurt him, too. Of course, Victoria and Albert were probably in Britain but I don't know.

the ceiling collapse might be the better bet. Anarchist's bomb, eh, hard to do *that* much damage if the anarchist can't get into the inner part of the palace where they celebrate. (Then again, it coudl cause a partial roof collapse, too, which would help.)

Does it have to be violent? If not, infectious disease would do very well. If the Charlottenberg has old drains, typhoid is always a possibility; if Victoria had recently visited England (I don't have access to any books that list her travels ATM) she might have brought back smallpox, which reached epidemic status there in 1888. Influenza and diphtheria are endemic at this point. Food poisoning is also a possibility in this era, especially in winter.

ETA Food poisoning also makes it easy to spare small children, as they didn't always share their elders' meals. Milk and buttered bread with fruit was considered a fine meal for a child under ten.

A gas explosion actually sounds like a nice idea. However, I did not yet find any clear indication that the Schloss Chalottenburg itself had gas lighting installed in 1888, all I found was about how the street lamps in front of the palace were (and still are even today!) gas lamps.
