AHC: Have the USSR collapse violently

Historically, the Soviet Union's fall, as dramatic as it was, was a surprisingly bloodless affair with the attempt by Chechnya to declare independence from Russia and the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan being notable exceptions. Your challenge is, with a POD after March 5, 1953, for the Soviet Union to collapse in a bloody civil war much like the former Yugoslavia did historically without WW3 breaking out. Bonus points if this collapse of the USSR leads to either the usage of nuclear weapons or an American intervention into the former USSR.

"Crisis in the Kremlin" and "Twilight of the red tsar" both deal with a violent collapse of the Warsaw Pact: in the first timeline comunist hardliners overthrow Gorbachev in 1989 and they roll back most of his reforms, while in the second one Stalin survives his stroke and he starts a new Great Terror while also ordering a soviet version of the Holocaust and declaring war against China, causing the destruction of the soviet economy and forcing the rest of the world to consider the URSS a rogue state.

Possibly global thermonuclear war.
The OP specifically said without WW3 breaking out. A thermonuclear war is possible under the challenge, but not a global nuclear war, since that would qualify as WW3.

Maybe the coup plotters win and try violently to restore the Union. Civil war emerges.
