AHC Have the Philippines readopt Malay

First, what is your definition of Malay?

Because if you define it as Malay as everyone in Malay-Polynesian language, then Tagalog, cebuano and all local languages of the Philippines minus English, some localized Spanish can be considered Malay.

If you mean Malay in the form spoken in present day Malaysia and Brunei, then you have small timeframe of Brunei conquering Manila, and Brunei repelling the spaniards, conquering ever city state in present borders from Luzon, visyas and Mindanao, repelling each European invasion after that until Brunei loses parity with the west.

Yep, Malay as in the form used in Malaysia and Indonesia and have the Philippines integrated in the Malay sphere.

Having the whole Philippines convert to Islam seems like an easy move in that direction.

I dont believe it is. You need to be conquered by people whose first language is Malay.

For comparison in otl, Sultanate of Sulu's official language was Arabic followed by Tausug. The lingua franca between them and Brunei/malaysia would be Arabic.
