First, what is your definition of Malay?
Because if you define it as Malay as everyone in Malay-Polynesian language, then Tagalog, cebuano and all local languages of the Philippines minus English, some localized Spanish can be considered Malay.
If you mean Malay in the form spoken in present day Malaysia and Brunei, then you have small timeframe of Brunei conquering Manila, and Brunei repelling the spaniards, conquering ever city state in present borders from Luzon, visyas and Mindanao, repelling each European invasion after that until Brunei loses parity with the west.
