AHC: Have Italy Go Communist

The challenge, if you accept, is to have Italy undergo a successful Communist revolution with a POD either after January 1, 1900 or between 1918-1939 (your choice). Bonus point if this gets Italy to join the Allies in WW2 and/or if Benito Mussolini leads the revolution.

Central Powers Italy would have a horrific supply situation. The country wasn't far from revolution after WWI anyway, this could be the tipping point.

It really is the horrific and shabby state of morale and supply shocks among both civilians (especially near the front lines) and the army that tipped the Russians over.

What you need to do is have the Biennio Rosso make a successful revolution. The best way to do that is probably having an incredibly demoralized army by a terrible campaign in WWI, and then have the army support the revolution á la Russia.

Done.

Yes but what campaign? One against the Austro-Hungarians? The Bulgarians? Earlier entry into WWI?

Can we tinker with 1948 election instead, or is this strictly a pre-WWII thing?

It's hard to imagine an Austro-Hungarian campaign go worse for the Italians unless the Entente actually lost. The Austrians weren't capable of a real invasion. But Cadorna was a *horrific* commander. Maybe if somebody frags him and there's a mutiny that could trigger something.

However, a communist insurrection in the Biennio Rosso should necessarily include clashes with fascist bands as well. It could turn to be a nasty civil war as in Russia.

France and GB will likely eat Libya, Eritrea and Somalia in the meanwhile, and Greece grabbed the Dodecanese.

Suppose the Brusilov Offensive was blunted, such that the Austro-Hungarians had a bunch of extra divisions to attack with in 1918. That could be devastating, under the right circumstances.
