AHC: Have China be the modern day equivalent of the Japanese Empire.

With a PoV of 1950, would it be possible for China to turn into what Japan used to be pre WWII and be one of if not the cause of a Third World War?

You know minus the horrific race based war crimes and mass slaughter across the length and breadth of the Pacific...
Although I think the challenge is more to have China be increasingly assertive and imperialistic and as opposed to be being as racist and evil as the Japanese Empire was.

Well the Chinese mainland is incredibly racist towards Japanese, Koreans and Indochinese....

Indonesians maybe, but Korean culture and fashion are generally pretty well liked in China.

Japan...is more complicated, but Chinese people don't see Japanese people as inferiors

I don't think it's even comparable to the Japanese perception of other Asians in the pre-1945 era. It was the height of eugenics and etc, they really thought the Yamato race was superior to other Asian races.

I not sure it's based on thinking Japanese are inferior as humans, more the fact that within living memory the Japanese committed horrific race based war crimes and mass slaughter across the length and breadth of their country and appear kinda ambivalent about it. The Japanese Imperial policy was based on flawed science and ideology. It'd take a huge step post 1950 for China to adopt anything remotely similar on the same scale, not that the PRC have been saints, I mean the people in Tibet would probably have a different take on the whole situation...

I read that somewhere the Japanese have an interesting view towards the Chinese culture. Among the Japanese mindset the older Chinese civilization and people(ie something like the Tang Dynasty which heavily influenced their own culture) were the much superior to the modern Chinese culture and people . Somewhere along the way the ''poor Chinese'' ''lost their way''. The Japanese were going to ''help'' the Chinese recover. They couldn't completely denigrate Chinese culture because if they did they would denigrate their own culture because it was largely influenced by Chinese culture.
