AHC: Governor Under 25

I think the best bet would be to have a popular but term-limited Governor install his son as a puppet. People would vote for the young whipper-snapper because his father would be there to "help" him govern. In OTL, several Governors did that with their wives (George Wallace comes to mind, but I think there have been others), so its not that big of a stretch to imagine.

Lurleen Walace might as well have been under the age of twenty five, it probably wouldn't have made that much difference (Angelina Jolie was 22 when she played her in the George Wallace TV biopic.:D)

Likewise Herman Talmadge of Georgia was such an outrageous choice for governor, taking power in a constitutional crisis after the death of his father, that being ten years younger would've been nary a problem.

It all sounds to me as if this is setting up Governor Audie Murphy... Maybe instead of his losing his way for a while after moving out to California, somebody attracts him to politics. Would have to do something about Earl Warren though. '46 had him at the height of his popularity in the state.

An Audie Murphy type individual who hailed from a small state is very plausible (surely there must have been some very young war heroes after the ACW who nearly got themselves elected governor?)

The Audie Murphy, not so much. He was a deeply disturbed indvidual.
