AHC: Good Pakistan-India relations

A common enemy couldn't hurt. Maybe if both were staunch anti-Communist states with leaders that decided to work together instead of against each other.

The problem is that the roots of their hatred run pretty deep, even deeper than what we see in the US now. Perhaps toning that down, making the split amicable a la the Czechs and Slovaks, and giving them a lot of reasons to interact peaceably.

Someone wrote a good post on loose federal republic competition moving into a later semi friendly parting of ways within the last few months.

The very foundation of the concept of Pakistan is the hatred of India. If it decide to befriend India, Pakistan will lose the very reason for its existence. Hence Indo-Pak enmity will survive as long as Pakistan exists.

It's not impossible for the two states to get along. India gets along just fine with Bangladesh, a nation founded as a Muslim separation from India. The way to stop the hate between India and Pakistan is to give Pakistan a different reason to exist.

It's impossible to get good Indo-Pakistani relations, as India doesn't believe that Pakistan should have existed. But you could get better Indo-Pakistani relations, maybe if there's no Jammu and Kashmir dispute.
