AHC: Goethe as a ruler of a german state

How could Johann Wolfgang von Goethe become ruler of a german state? I guess either as an democratically elected president of a revolutionary germany or he gets a principality during the Congress of Vienna. It's not like he's completely unfit for this job as he was basically the second most powerful person in Saxe-Weimar at least before he left for Italy.
For people who don't know him he was the most famous german poet of his time and also a (failed) scientist and minister in the duchy of Saxe-Weimar.

He wasn't all bad as a scientist either, he eg discovered the intermaxillary bone, that's for sure. But he loved his theories which lead to him denying Newton's explanation of colors. - And unfortunately his fans care more for his Farbenlehre than his other work. As if they love him only when he was making mistakes...

But back to your question: Maybe something related to the French Revolution/Napoleon? PM of a satellite Thuringian republic? Though I don't know whether he'd like to collaborate.

Shouldn’t that be easy? He was born in the Free Imperial City of Frankfurt, and was for some time a lawyer there. So maybe he could stay in Frankfurt, get involved in politics, and then get elected Senior Mayor. As Frankfurt is a free city, that would make him a ruler of an independent state, I think.

It ist rumored that he had a scret liason with the duchess of Weimar-Eisenach Anna Amalia ( Duke Carl August wife). Doesn' t make him a ruler though.

It wouldn't t even be that unlikey. Goethes family was higher class already in Frankfurt due to wealth. Maybe If he puts effort into a political career and networks, he might even pull of becoming Senior Mayor of the Freie Reichstadt Frankfurt (Independent Republic until 1866).
