AHC: Get rid of film white washing

basically, the idea for this challenge is to make all film casting colorblind, with the exception of films where race is an issue like biopics and works set in the past.

This means that for normal roles, all ethnicities have equal chances of being cast. POD should come after 1965 unless that's impossible

There was a famous Japanese actor who was denied a particular movie role on the grounds that every other "Asian" character would be played by whites in "yellowface" makeup and thus he'd stick out too much.

Maybe he gets this part anyway? This is based on an incident I half-remember from my ethnic cinema class in college that probably took place in the 1920s or 1930s.

These criteria are broadly true of the theatre (certainly in Britain), subject to individual directors' choices. Personally, I feel sometimes it can in fact distract from the piece in a damaging way - for example, I've seen plays where parents are black and children are very much white, or other combinations thereof.

To make this happen in film you'd have to say goodbye to a good chunk of the verisimilitude film prides itself upon as a medium. I'm not sure we would think of film in the same way, philosophically speaking, if this were the case. It's the kind of thing that in OTL would be genuinely regarded as a 'goof', to use the IMDB terminology. 'Sam's mom is black, but she herself is clearly not of mixed parentage, and no indication is made that she is a adopted'.

well they'd still try to keep it consistent amongst family.
