AHC: Get a unified world frame-rate / resolution analog TV system

Since PAL, SECAM, and NTSC evolved separately, which points of departure could have given us a unified analog TV standard frame-rate and resolution? And what would that standard have been?

Not going to happen.

European mains frequency is 50 hz, us is 60. While it would surely have been possible to scan at something other than the mains frequency, it would have seriously added to the cost, complexity and unreliability of early sets.

Could they have done better? Sure. Could there have been a single european colour standard? Sure.

But a single standard from the beginning would have made tv adoption slower.

as Dathi points out above , having differing mains frequencies doesn't help as the mains can be used to provide a reasonably stable and externally sourced signal for the timebase...

Colour standards, sound offset frequencies and the like is much more ideologically driven whether it's to make it hard for your population to receive evil capitalist propaganda or just because (being French) you have to do it differently )
