AHC: Germany loses WWI, but doesn't lose any colonies

Like the titel says.

With a PoD in 1900 or later, make it that Germany in WWI ( or a comparable conflict +/- 10 years) is on the losing side, but doesn't lose any of its colonies.

Germany does not build a large navy, as a result tensions with the UK are lower and the Great War is initally a French/Russian - German conflict. Due to some reason the French and Russians do much better than in OTL, with other nations joining in as well, and Germany is defeated. The only thing they couldn't conquer, however, are the German colonies except for some small ones perhaps. At the peace negotiations Germany knows it will lose much and wants to retain the colonies for domestic politics. Besides, the French are reluctant to take on yet another colonies.

With Britain in the war, IMO such a thing would be really difficult

What should Britain fight for, if not for German colonies?

Indeed. The Dominions also were pretty keen to get local territories. Britain had sort of put the stops on dominion sub colonial empires a decade or so earlier, but that didn't stop SA, Australia and NZ all eyeing up various German possessions.

We got Samoa as a result of WW1! Go us!

There was a thread on another forum about Lettow-Vorbeck deciding to keep fighting. He declares an East African Republic. He gets a lot of sympathy especially from the United States (cheering the underdog) and manages to keep the British out of German East Africa long enough for a settlement. This doesn't fit the criteria exactly, but may lead to closer ties between "Ost Afrika" and "Zud Afrika" as against the British with interesting possibilities.
