AHC: George W. Bush seen as one of America's best presidents

The drumbeats of war were written to the music of a propaganda machine that started in mid-2002, timed to peak in early 2003. It took a lot of effort to stoke the population and even then it was a bit more divided than you are suggesting. The vote in the House was 297 to 133. But the R's fell in line and voted overwhelmingly for it. This wasnt like the vote to take out Afghanistan and the case was never really conclusively made. If you didnt have Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld there probably would not have been a war.

I was alive then and I have very different memories of those days with the question in the first Newsweek after being should we do Iraq and Afghanistan at the same time. And when Bush talked about Axis of Evil everyone knew the point of pressure was Baghdad not NK or Iran.

The case for war was badly bungled as I remember the summer of 2002 a cartoon with Bush's team trying to sell a vaccum that was the Iraq war and they had the vacuum upside down and on their heads and Uncle Sam says I was already sold but now I am having second thought which summed up what happened pretty well.

I was 30 years old then. Perhaps we live in different parts of the country and are exposed to different news flow.
