AHC: Gaelic Wales

Using a post-476 POD, how can the area known as Wales speak a Gaelic language and culturally be similar to OTL Ireland? England must be controlled by the Anglo-Saxons, who must bring their culture to the land like OTL. Bonus points if Scotland remains Brythonic.

Actually, the topic has been discussed several times.

Has it? The Welsh being replaced by Irish? I dont remember any such discussion.

Since the Irish are the only Gaels around at the time, that means you need an Irish invasion. To meet the bonus challenge, having the southern Irish cross to Britain instead of the Northern ones (maybe DalRiada(sp?) is more sucessful IN Ireland?)

Still, getting these Irish to actually conquer and culturally replace the Welsh would be tough. Very tough.

The Picts were more primitive, not christianized, etc, which made the Gaelic cultural conquest a lot easier. Wales is on an equal footing to Ireland, and the assimilation is more likely to go the other way.

Historically some of the Irish did migrate into & conquer parts of what's now Wales during the Dark Ages, but their colonies were subsequent expelled or assimilated by the Welsh.

Well, the Irish caused some Welsh to flee, later tose Welsh became the Bretons right? What if more of those Welsh left, leaving more space for Irish to settle? So you get an more-Irish Wales and a more Celtic Brittany at the same time!
