AHC French India in OTL France

Simple challenge: develop a POD where French conquered and keep all of India... with a France which keeped in general its TL ( revolution, first empire, restoration, second empire, third republic, nazi occupation, decolonization). Obviously some events could be different (example a different colonization is allowed) but in the end i don't want to see sostantial difference from France.

Sostiantially, i want to know and see how French culture and history will affect India...

This is impossible as the French revolution was a direct result of the desolate financial situation after the lost seven years war (which entailed the loss of India). If France manages controll of India and its resources, there will be no crisis and hence no revolution.

Well, presumably it won't get all of India in one go! After the 7YW it would have gained Madras, whilst possibly the British have lost Bengal to the revolt, but France won't pick it up at this stage

Presumably the French situation in India was not key to the decision to make peace, so that won't affect the immediate outcome. And don't forget the French WON in the AWI but still went bankrupt and had revolution

The difficult part is going to be hanging on in India after the Revolution, but if Britain has been substantially driven out then France can do more or less what it did in OTL, ally with Mysore and harry remaining British interests

A French victory in the Seven Years War is not hard to do, and the peace negotiations following that could result in a much stronger French position in India. Rather like the British did IOTL, they could gradually expand over the subsequent decades until they bring the entire Subcontinent under their sway.

I think a key difference is that the French would be more willing than the British to work with quasi-independent rulers and less willing to administer territory directly.

?Does this butterfly into a British Indochina?

I suppose there's some possibility, but I would be more inclined at looking at other British colonisation efforts in the Americas - making more out of Miskitia and Belize to perhaps try Central America, or making a serious effort at Rio de la Plata

Of course, a lot depends on how the butterflies play their games with the Dutch, since the removal of most British influence from India would probably mean more security for Ceylon - if it doesn;t and the British make the effort to go conquer the place then maybe they would be in a position to make a play in Indo-China

Of course, they could decide after a peace trearty to hand back Ceylon to the Dutch but to keep Cayenne instead which would tie in with British Guyana
