In 1956, 1960, and possibly other times, VP Nixon said that "the four day work week is inevitable within our time"; with no PoDs prior to 1956, and preferably after his 1968 election, how can this (four days a week, or equivalent fewer hours) come about by present day?
To make things easier -- currently Americans work an average of about 37.5 hours a week, not counting lunch breaks; France works 30 hours a week. In 1979, the average U.S. worker was actually halfway between these figures, but ended up working more by 2007 instead of less.
