AHC: European Religious Revival

Throughout American history there have been several religious revivals, and each of these revivals was followed by some major political change. The First Great Awakening was followed by the American revolution, the Second Great Awakening was followed by the American Civil War. There are several other religious revivals in US history, but you get the idea.

I am curious as what would it take for there to be a Great Awakening like religious revival in Europe. America and Europe have taken different views toward religion. In Europe religious institutions have had a history of being viewed either anti-intellectual or anti-liberty, while in America the idea of religious freedom is one of its founding values. The enlightenment in Europe was very anti-religious, while the enlightenment in America fused with the Great Awakening, creating a fusion of an intellectual revolution and a religious revival.

So what would it take for there to be a religious revival in Europe like there has been in America? If these conditions were met, what mike a European Great Awakening look like?

The Pope has a hardcore religious vision in 1914 regarding WWI and gets steel in his spine as a result. He predicts an appalling bloodbath should the Great Powers go to war, with hundreds of thousands slain and maimed in single battles. He begs the Powers not to go to war, and when they do, begs them to make a white peace continually. He asks all Catholics of good will to pray the rosary N times per day for an end to this senseless slaughter of Christians, where N is a large number. In addition, he reaches out to the socialist parties of Europe to help him in his efforts to bring peace.
Finally, some time early in the OTL war, perhaps coinciding with the Christmas truce, buoyed by the prestige gained by having his very public predictions generally come to pass, several of the major leaders of the belligerent nations blink and agree to peace talks brokered by the Vatican. Lots of Europeans then see the Catholic church as the 'Strong Horse', because it has apparently bent the powers of this world to its will without violence and embrace Catholicism.

There's a TL around here somewhere featuring different papal politics and a post-WWII major revival of Catholicism.

Can't remember the specifics.

You've given me a horribly delicious idea for my timeline... :D

Along that subject while answering the OP though, an Italy unified in 1848 with the as-per-OTL 'Italian Crusade' theme is going to massively fracture Catholicism. Inadvertently though this balkanization of the church would lead to a religious revival in southern and central Europe as many moderates and conservatives in the 1848 period were staunchly Catholic who supported Pius. Could be an interesting facet of an alt-Crimean War.
