AHC: Eudoxes of Cyzicus

A successful circumnavigation of Africa would do the trick. After this, a lot can happen. Eudoxes could become marooned in OTL South Africa and found a dynasty. Using his knowledge of Ptolemaic military tactics (presumably) , this dynasty ends up ruling the whole world a thousand years later.
@DominusNovus ... you said go nuts;). Hope that was nuts enough.

Eudoxes I of the Kingdom of Aphrike-Sanzi :p. (name is meshing of Greek and Xhosa terms for the area).

Apologies if this is too ASB/implausible.

Only plausible if you include a Draka pun.

I was considering that... But I did not want to imply that any global empire coming out of South Africa had to be Draka ;). Sorry about that. Probably should have.

I gotta say right now that stranding one guy and a boat full of presumably polyglot crew does not a Hellenic Empire make. South Africa at that time will be filled with hunter gatherers. Even iron working is centuries out. There's no way a random foreigner and his crew could build an empire. The Xhosa still live in the Great Lakes at this time period.

African civilizations could be deeply impacted by increase Hellenic Indian Ocean trade (and indeed I've always wanted to do a timeline that focuses on that) but what you're proposing is, as I think you've all but acknowledged, ASB.

Circumnavigating Africa, while incredibly difficult, is probably the best this guy could do.

@Practical Lobster I would have held to non-ASB ideas, but he gave me no restrictions on plausibility. Did not know about the Xhosa being further north then, so thank you for that information. :) I still think it COULD (not by ANY means would) be done. He could take control of a native tribe through a multitude of ways. Once he has a manpower base full of soldiers trained in the methods of the Near East (to the nearest technological capabilities), he can start conquering. A thousand years is a long time. One unified polity with future trade connections even to Egypt could advance in technology much faster than OTL South Africa.
