In China, dynasties are quite recognisable as the product of the previous dynasty; they also arise from similar regions.
How can the same be for Europe? My basic get was:
1. Roman Empire
2. Byzantine Empire
3. Arabian Empire
4. Spanish Empire
....and so on.
(the challenge is not to place dynasties in similar places but to make these empires be typically seen as direct successors/predecessors of each other.)
