Looking at the history of england/britain and castille/spain recently it struck me how their medieval pre reformation history can be seen as very similar.

Multi ethnic realms with many language trees residing within it.

Periods of foreign rule and reconquest (moors in spain, danes in england)

the challenge is to create an english catholic universal monarchy that respects local rights and traditions in the way that pre bourbon hapsburg spain did.

Maybe a good place to start is avoiding the reformation and increasing powers to the local councils of ireland and wales under the tudors.

How would this impact british regionalism/nationalism?

How would this impact colonisation of the new world?
