AHC: Earlier Communist Afghanistan

Had the Bolsheviks been able to complete their conquest of Central Asia more quickly, they might have been in a position to exploit the defeat of Afghanistan in the Third Anglo-Afghan War to install a puppet government in Kabul. One prerequisite for this would have been a higher degree of ideological flexibility than that which was displayed in our time line, particularly when it came to Islam. The other would be a system of logistics that would have allowed the Red forces in Central Asia to sustain themselves without threatening the population with starvation.

To put things another way, in order to conquer Afghanistan in 1919 or so, the Bolsheviks would have had to have been a whole lot less ... Bolshevik.
